Platform support
What runs on each machine, and what remains on the Linux host.
Linux · native host
MSO manages the Linux machine where its runtime runs. Use a normal non-root user. The installer handles supported prerequisites where possible. Keep about 2 GB free for dependencies/build and enough RAM or swap for a Next production build.
systemd is optional for the core CLI/web fallback runtime. Individual managed apps can require a user systemd bus or Docker.
macOS and Windows · Linux guests
macOS uses Lima. Windows uses WSL2, not WSL1. Host operations apply to the Linux guest, not native macOS launchd or Windows services.
If Lima and Homebrew are absent, prepare one using the installation guide. On Windows, complete the distro’s first launch before installing MSO.
Choose a platform and see the exact commands →Android · Termux + PRoot
Use a current official Termux distribution. The installer prepares an Ubuntu PRoot guest and its mso launcher without Android root access.
Android battery policies can suspend the host. Managed apps are refused when neither required systemd nor Docker backends are available. Prefer an always-on Linux host for production.
iOS and iPadOS · browser/PWA client
Install MSO on a supported host first. Open its protected HTTPS URL in Safari, pair the device, then use Add to Home Screen.
The phone or tablet is the operator interface. Host execution remains on the connected machine.
Set up your iPhone or iPad →These guides orient you; use the runtime reference for complete flags and operational procedures.
